Asbestos testing and monitoring

For decades, Canadian builders used asbestos to make building materials stronger and more resistant to fire and corrosion. It wasn’t until 1987 when building code first restricted its use. Despite the introduction of regulations, buildings containing asbestos remain standing in commercial and residential areas throughout Alberta.

Asbestos Testing And Monitoring - Anena Indoor Air Quality Testing and Consulting offers asbestos testing in Calgary, Edmonton and throughout Alberta. Our certified air quality specialists, asbestos inspectors, and environmental managers are skilled and equipped to safely detect and monitor asbestos. Afterwards, our air clearance testing ensures full asbestos removal compliance. We also offer continuous air monitoring to detect the presences of friable asbestos fibres.

About Asbestos
A naturally occurring mineral, asbestos is commonly found throughout older structures, including exteriors, floors, walls, ceilings, and roofs. It appears in two basic classifications. Serpentine asbestos, also known as white asbestos, is most common in manufacturing and construction. It is recognizable by its flexible, curved, white fibers containing the mineral chrysotile.
Amphibole asbestos appears as straight, brittle, needle-like fibers in a range of colors, including blue, when containing the mineral crocidolite, and brown, when containing the mineral amosite. Other amphibole minerals include actinolite, anthrophyllite, and tremolite.

Health Conditions Associated With Asbestos
Based on numerous scientific studies, both classifications of asbestos pose serious health risks when its fibers become airborne and enter into the lungs of people who are exposed. Exposure can cause a number of serious health conditions, including the chronic lung disease known as Asbestosis and mesothelioma, a lung cancer. Asbestos is now banned from commercial use in 50 countries, not including Canada or the U.S.
